Unmute · Speaking practice

Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 August 2026 · Applies to the Unmute iOS and Android app published by Fantera Technologies Ltd.

The short version

  • Unmute sends your practice recordings to an AI service to write your feedback. This only happens when you tap Analyze, and only after you have agreed to it. It never happens in the background.
  • The recording goes to OpenRouter, which passes it to Google's Gemini model. Those two companies are the only ones that receive your audio.
  • We do not keep the audio. Your recording is not saved to our servers. We store only the written feedback and the scores that come back.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
  • You can delete everything from inside the app, under Settings → Manage Account → Delete Account.

01Who we are

Unmute is a speaking-practice app that records short spoken takes and returns coaching feedback on delivery — clarity, pace, tone, and filler words.

The app is published by Fantera Technologies Ltd, 86-90 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NE. For data protection law we are the data controller for the information described in this policy. You can reach us at support@fantera.app.

This policy covers the Unmute mobile app only. It does not cover other Fantera products, which have their own policies.

02How your recordings are used by AI

This is the part of the app that involves sharing your data with another company, so we set it out in full.

What is sent

When you ask for feedback on a take, we send three things:

  • The audio recording of that take.
  • The topic you were asked to speak on — the prompt text shown on screen.
  • How long you spoke — the target length and the length you actually recorded, in seconds.

Nothing else is attached. Your name, your email address, and your account identifier are not sent to the AI service. The recording is not labelled with who you are.

Who receives it

The recording is sent from our server to OpenRouter, Inc., a service that routes AI requests to model providers. OpenRouter passes it to Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash model, which listens to the take and writes the feedback. Those two companies are the only third parties that receive your audio.

Both process the recording in order to return your feedback, and are bound by their own published terms and privacy commitments, linked in section 4. We ask you to read those terms if the detail matters to you.

When

Only when you tap Analyze on a take you have just recorded. Before the first time this happens, the app shows you a screen explaining what is sent and to whom, and asks you to agree. If you decline, nothing is sent — you keep the app, you simply do not get AI feedback. Recording audio without asking for analysis never sends anything anywhere.

What is kept afterwards

We do not store your audio. It is held in memory only for as long as the request takes, and is not written to our database or file storage. What we do keep, linked to your account, is the result: your scores, the written notes, the filler-word count, and the raw response returned by the model.

We do not control how long OpenRouter or Google retain a request on their own systems. Their published policies govern that, and we link them below.

03What we collect, and why

DataHow we collect itWhat we use it for

Handled on your device where your device supports it; otherwise your device's operating system may process it on Apple's or Google's servers under their own privacy policies.

We do not run advertising, we do not use advertising identifiers, and we do not build profiles for marketing.

04Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers below, only to run the app, and only to the extent each one needs. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

06How long we keep things

  • Practice recordings — not retained by us at all.
  • Your account, practice history, and feedback — kept until you delete your account, after which they are removed from our database.
  • Purchase records — retained by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat for as long as their own policies and our tax and accounting obligations require.

07Your choices and your rights

Delete everything. Open the app and go to Settings → Manage Account → Delete Account. This removes your account and the practice history and feedback attached to it.

Stop sharing with the AI service. Simply stop tapping Analyze — no further recordings will be sent. To withdraw your agreement entirely and remove past results, delete your account.

Turn off reminders. Disable notifications for Unmute in your device settings.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, ask us to delete or restrict it, object to processing, or receive it in a portable format. Email support@fantera.app and we will respond within one month.

If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EEA, to your local supervisory authority.

08Where your data goes

We are based in the United Kingdom, and the providers listed in section 4 operate in the United States and elsewhere. Where data leaves the UK or EEA, it is transferred under the safeguards those providers offer for international transfers, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum.

09Children

Unmute is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email support@fantera.app and we will delete it.

10Security

Traffic between the app, our servers, and our providers is encrypted in transit. Access to your practice data is restricted at the database level so that one account cannot read another's. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not keep the most sensitive item — your audio — at all.

11Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or who we send it to, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant — a new AI provider, or a new category of data — we will tell you in the app and, where the law requires it, ask you again.
